Luke 2:6-7 KJV
And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
Luke was a Gentile physician as well as a missionary companion of Paul. He described the facts leading to Mary’s pregnancy culminating in the miraculous birth of a child, Jesus Christ. The practice of tearing strips of cloth used to wrap a newborn infant is what was meant by “swaddling clothes.” The manger was actually an animal feeding trough. Luke’s words included the description of the stable while others wrote of his birth in a cave used as a stable. Whether a stable or a cave, Jesus was born to save all who by faith choose to believe He’s the Savior.
Christmas Eve Service has always been a time of reflection for me. Sometimes it’s a bittersweet reminder of Christmases past. For me it’s a time to remember why Jesus was born. There are many that have spent most of their life without knowing Jesus saves. Thankfully I didn’t miss that opportunity and gave my life to Christ many years ago. Where we were born really doesn’t matter nor the life of each sinner. We take that first step by believing He’s our Savior.
