Luke 11:4a, Ephesians 4:32, Colossians 3:13 NIV 2011

“Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us.”

Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

Jesus included in the prayer He taught His disciples to ask for forgiveness from God. The unmerited forgiveness received is what also needs to be given to those who’ve sinned. Paul reminded the church in both letters to the churches in Asia Minor to forgive one another. He was tying that to the forgiveness God has richly given to all who believe in Jesus Christ. God forgives believers through Christ and calls believers to forgiveness.

There are more times than I can count when I’ve failed to ask for forgiveness for the wrongs I’ve meted out on loved ones. But I continue to wait for others to say they are sorry when all I need to do is go ahead and forgive them. Why is it so difficult to for me to forgive? I think nothing of asking for forgiveness from the Lord when I’ve obviously gone off the rails knowing once I confess my sins He will forgive me. I’m His work in progress. As a work progress, daily I will work on forgiving others.

How will we model God’s forgiveness to others?

Thankful we’re His forgiven,
