Nehemiah 1:8-9 NIV 2011
“Remember the instruction you gave your servant Moses, saying, ‘If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the nations, but if you return to me and obey my commands, then even if your exiled people are at the farthest horizon, I will gather them from there and bring them to the place I have chosen, as a dwelling for my name.’”
The book of Nehemiah was written after the Jews returned from exile. Nehemiah knew God is sovereign and began to pray. Genesis 8:1, “But God remembered Noah and all the wild animals…” He used Leviticus 26:33 as his reminder, “I will scatter you among the nations and will draw out my sword and pursue you.” God alone will gather His people when He choses. Micah 2:12a, “I will surely gather all of you, Jacob: I will surely bring together the remnant of Israel.” God never forgets His people.
Rushing around packing for the short two-day trip to Seattle, I kept thinking I’d forgotten something. Maybe because it was a short trip but nothing was forgotten. Over the years my husband and I will laugh and say, “If we forget something, we can buy it.” There has never been anything we’ve forgotten that we couldn’t do without. The day I chose to follow Christ, I became one of His people, His family. This passage in Jeremiah is a daily reminder, God never forgets His people.
Why does God never forget us?
