1 Corinthians 1:30-31 NIV 2011
It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”
Paul’s first letter to the church at Corinth begins and ends with instruction to stand firm in the foundation of the faith. Factions and spiritual immaturity were tearing the church apart. Jesus Christ and Christ crucified was the bedrock of their faith. God sent Jesus and calls believers to be in communion with Christ. And there is no future of merit without Christ. Believers receive righteousness, holiness and redemption through Christ alone. Paul shortened a quote from Jeremiah 9:24 regarding the basis of boasting. Boast in the Lord because He is the source of all wisdom. Christ is the wisdom of God where true wisdom begins.
Sitting in Starbucks, I smile as a group sitting at a table behind me pontificate on this and that. I’d love to know the source of their amazing wisdom but will restrain from asking as I type. When I first learned true wisdom comes from God, it was a humbling experience. By no means the smartest person, He has given me the ability to remember and research information as I write. The Lord guides me to every tool I need. Christ reflects true wisdom that comes from God.
