John 1:4-5, 8:12 NIV 2011

In him was life, and that life was the light of mankind. The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it.

When Jesus spoke again to the people he said, “I am the light of the world.”

John declared life is found in Jesus Christ. John 14:6, “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” Faith in Jesus offers those who follow Him eternal life. John 11:26, “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” God’s light dispels darkness. Psalm 18:28, “You, Lord, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light.” Jesus declared himself to be God’s Light lighting the path for all who follow Him. Jesus is the Light of the world.

It’s been a few years since I showed up at a dear friends home and noticed that her light wasn’t shining. A great conversation helped her flip the switch and it began to shine once again. As I follow Jesus, there is no reason this side of heaven my light should not shine daily. I learned as a child, “This little light of mine.” Even in life’s darkest moments, I’m confident God’s flashlight will light my way while walking with Him. Jesus is the Light of my world.

What keeps our light shining brightly?

Shining ‘til Jesus returns,
