Exodus 3:4-5 NIV 2011
When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!”
And Moses said, “Here I am.”
“Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.”
Pharaoh’s daughter raised Moses as her son and named him. One commentator wrote, “He was a champion of justice.” After defending a Hebrew he was forced to flee to Midian. Tending a flock, “the angel of the Lord appeared to him in the flames of a burning bush.” Just like the prophets that followed Moses was called by God. 1 Samuel 3:4, “Then the Lord called Samuel. Samuel answered, ‘Here I am.’” By removing his sandals Moses humbly approached the Lord with respect. Because God was there, the ground became holy. God’s consecration of Moses separated him from others. God separates for service those He calls.
I remember the many men and women God has called that have touched my life through my many years. There have been pastors, youth ministers, choir directors, BSF staff and on and on, each one godly men and women called to serve the Lord. We are all called to serve the Lord by leading others to Christ. Though we may never know those that make that choice, we all continue to serve Him. Daily God separates those He calls for service.
How is God separating you to serve today?
