1 Timothy 2:5-7 NIV 2011
For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed to at the proper time. And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle—I am telling the truth, I am not lying—and a true and faithful teacher of the Gentiles.
Paul’s letters to Timothy hold God’s Truth to be shared with the church at Ephesus. There is one God, Deuteronomy 6:4, “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.” Jesus quoted these words in Mark 12:29. Jesus was God with skin on, was ransomed and paid the price, for the sins of all. Galatians 4:4-5a “But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem…” Jesus is God’s mediator ransomed for all sinners.
Mediating disagreements between daughters seven years apart was not an easy task. Somehow He gave me the wisdom to listen and discern. Not always the solution they desired but it was where we ended the disagreement. I was a union representative involved in mediating disputes, not my forte. Daily I’m thankful I have Christ mediating on my behalf. Though undeserving of God’s great grace, I am thankful He sent His Son. Jesus, God’s mediator paid the ransom for all sinners like me.
What does Jesus ask of sinners?
Christ our mediator,
