John 15:11-13 NIV 2011
“I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete. My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
John began chapter 15 with Jesus’ last “I am” statement: “I am the true vine.” Abiding in Jesus produces fruit that remains. The joy of the Lord is found in an obedient walk with the Master. He tells all believers to love as they have been loved. Christ’s love is seen in His untiring work on earth and His sacrificial death on the cross. Untiring sacrificial work of His faithful glorifies God and shines His Light on a lost and dying world. Each person must choose either faith or unbelief. Those who choose to love Jesus obey His commands.
This particular Scripture was the place where God led me today. Getting out of my comfort zone can be daunting and yet I’m called to do it daily as I write and walk with Him. Shining His Light can be easy but many times it is met with much darkness. The words to this song keep running through my head, “I Have Decided to Follow Jesus.” The story behind that song reveals to me why the song is on my lips.
