1 Thessalonians 3:2-3 NIV2011
We sent timothy, who is our brother and co-worker to God’s service to spreading the gospel of Christ, to strengthen and encourage you to your faith, so that no one would be unsettled by these trials. For you know quite well that we are destined for them.
After establishing the church in Thessalonica during Paul’s second missionary journey, Timothy was sent back. Upon Timothy’s return, Paul wrote his first letter to them. Paul offered Timothy’s credentials as encouragement in leading the faithful in the church as “co-worker to God’s service.” Paul used the same term with the Corinthians. 1 Corinthians 3:9, “For we are co-workers in God’s service.” Christian service doesn’t happen in a bubble but via supporting faithful believers lives. Fellow Christians like Timothy strengthened/buttressed and encouraged believers. When the going got tough, there were fellow believers standing with them. Christ calls Christians to stand strong together.
When the going gets tough for me, there are many mature Christians I’m confident that will stand with me. Prayerfully others know I will positively stand with them. This Scripture is one I’ve loved since 2004. I read a devotional in “My Utmost for His Highest” by Oswald Chambers to a dear friend. Not able to stand, I stood praying I walked beside her as she walked into eternity. God’s Word was shared during each visit spent together. I’m called to stand strong with you.
How will we daily each stand strong together?
