Ezekiel 36:26-27 NIV 2011
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.
Ezekiel completes God’s four promises of restoration with these last two. One commentator wrote, “Contains ‘new covenant’ terminology.” Jeremiah 31:33, “‘This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time,’ declares the Lord.” Ezekiel’s words were specific for his fellow Jews in captivity. God would cleanse their heart, Ezekiel 18:31, “Rid yourselves of all the offenses you have committed, and get a new heart…” The indwelling Holy Spirit guides God’s people to stand on His Word. Ezekiel 37:4, “I will put my Spirit in you and you will live…” Believers receive a heart-transplant and new birth at salvation.
The woman I am today is not the woman I was forty years ago. God began a work in my life that continually changes me. Jesus was my Savior but God’s Word was something inside my RSV Bible that was not a part of my life. As a student of God’s Word today it’s clear that is my daily adventure. Firmly standing on His Word helps ground my faith. At salvation I received a heart-transplant and new birth.
How does standing on God’s Word change hearts?
