Psalm 118:29, 1 Thessalonians 5:16-22 NIV 2011
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
The psalter ended with the same words as he began, to gratefully praise, “Give thanks” to the Lord. Why? Because He is good and He loves His people with an everlasting love. Psalm 100:5, “For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.” Paul reminded the church in Thessalonica to rejoice, pray and give thanks. 2 Corinthians 11:23b, “I have worked much harder, been in prison more frequently, been flogged more severely, and been exposed to death again and again.” He never ceased to thank God. His life after meeting Christ was forever changed. Thanksgiving is a command in both the Old and New Testament.
Paul knew attitudes influenced behavior in believers. It is much the same today. By examining the words I use daily, I see they directly impact my attitude. When I use words with encouragement, thanksgiving and love it reflects a joyful heart. Philippians 2:14, “Do everything without grumbling or arguing.” Making prayer an integral part of my day keeps His joy at the forefront. Focusing on these actions are key components of walking with Jesus. Knowing all I’ve been given in Christ I offer thanksgiving for saving me.
How will we encourage those we love?
Thankful hearts together,
