Hebrews 13:17 NIV 2011
Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you.
Hebrew’s author ended with exhortations to the Jewish Christians concerning lives lived for Christ. Hebrews 13:7, “Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.” Their current leaders were chosen and placed in authority. Paul consistently communicated and modeled everything leadership entailed: be constructive not destructive. 2 Corinthians 10:3, “For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does.” Jesus and His disciples modeled respect for authority, orderliness and discipline. God’s leaders enable and equip their flock to faithfully follow Jesus.
Days spent serving the Lord are among the best days I have. During our discussion of 1 Samuel 9-15 we saw three men each with a different leadership style. A godly man called by God as a priest who remained obedient. A king called by God who decided to do things his way. The last was a son whose faith led him to victory over an enemy. Each reveals a choice I make daily as a leader called by God. I’ll enable and equip my peeps to faithfully follow Jesus.
How is God calling you to serve?
His faithful followers,
