Psalm 3:1-4 NIV 2011

Lord, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me! Many are saying of me, “God will not deliver him.”

But you, Lord, are a shield, around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high. I call out to the Lord and he answers me from his holy mountain.”

As king of Israel, David was pursued by many foes throughout his life. 2 Samuel 15:13, “A messenger came and told David, ‘The hearts of the people of Israel are with Absalom.’” The intro to Psalm 3 states, “A psalm of David. When he fled from his son Absalom.” In danger, David went directly to God in prayer. David knew from God’s consistent answers to prayer He would once again shield and protect him. Surrounded by the enemy, David prayed. The Lord heard and answered David’s prayers. The Lord persistently protects and shields His people.

To my recollection, there’s never been a time in my life when I’ve feared for my life. For that I’m thankful but there are still times when uncertainty takes hold and all I can do is draw near to God. My hope is founded on the Lord Jesus Christ. I trust Him when the wheels come off my bus. I look up to the Lord for help putting the wheels back exactly where they belong. Daily the Lord unfailingly protects and shields me.

How have you seen Jesus as your shield and protector?

Jesus protects and shields,

S
