Nehemiah 1:8-9 NIV 2011
“Remember the instructions you gave your servant Moses, saying, ‘If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the nations, but if you return to me and obey my commands, then even if your exiled people are at the farthest horizon, I will gather them from there and bring them to the place I have chosen as a dwelling for my Name.’”
Cupbearer to king Artaxerxes, Nehemiah understood a remnant of Jews survived and returned to Jerusalem. He asked God to grant him success with the king in rebuilding the city where his ancestors were buried. God’s Hand was instrumental guiding the king’s favorable answer to Nehemiah. By rebuilding the walls, the God focused lives of the Jews could be rebuilt as well. Jeremiah 29:14, “I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity.” God is the Re-builder of broken walls and lives.
An immediate family member of a new friend and another friend’s family member recently passed away. Knowing the loss of a close loved one it is a step-by-step process that begins by rebuilding on our old foundation. By those grounded in God’s Word and through peoples’ prayers that process begins. Those without the Lord, I’m not quite sure how they rebuild as their foundation is not solid. I remember friends saying to me, “I just don’t know how you did it.” Daily God is my Re-builder.
