Luke 1:11-13 NIV 2011
Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing at the right side of the altar of incense. When Zechariah saw him, he was startled and was gripped with fear. But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zechariah, your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you will call him John.”
Zechariah was a priest. Luke 1:5, “In the time of Herod king of Judea there was a priest named Zechariah.” He and his wife Elizabeth were old and childless but “righteous in the sight of God.” After praying for a child, God answered his prayer. Luke 1:19, “The angel said to him, ‘I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and tell you this good news.’” God hears and answers the prayers of His people.
If the current world situation has not brought you to your knees, I would be amazed. Grocery store shelves are bare. There is panic in the eyes of many. The words “self quarantine” roll off our tongues. In two short weeks our world has changed. But God remains the same as He never changes. Daily He sees our plight and is probably smiling as He waits for many to return to Him. 2 Chronicles 7:14 is my favorite verse, “If my people…” I know God hears and answers my prayers.
Who needs to know Jesus?
