Matthew 21:28-30 NIV 2011
“What do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work today in the vineyard.’
“ ‘I will not,’ he answered, but later he changed his mind and went.
“Then the father went to the other son and said the same thing. He answered, ‘I will, sir,’ but he did not go.”
Matthew recorded Jesus’ parable of the two sons. Both were asked to perform the same task. Both were disobedient. The first flatly refused. The second said yes but did not follow through. Though defiant, the first had a change of heart and did what his father asked him to do. The action of God’s people speak louder than their replies. God through the power of the Holy Spirit can work in the defiant hearts of His people. God is able to renew the heart and save those who turn away.
After our prayer meeting last night, I had the opportunity to chat with my pastor’s wife. She thanked me for being a part of the Wednesday night prayer group and for helping a few Sunday’s before by welcoming all as they arrived to worship at the second service. With a smile I instructed them how to open the small communion cups in the basket. She asked me to pray with members on Sunday after service and greet. With God’s renewed heart I said, “Yes.”
Why does God renew our hearts?
