Psalm 125:1-2 NIV 2011
Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever. As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds his people both now and forevermore.
The psalter reminded God’s people He alone is worthy of their trust. Psalm 46:1, 7 “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.” God remains a constant refuge for His people. Psalm 34:8, “Taste and see that the Lord is good, blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.” Just as the mountains surrounding the city of Jerusalem protected it, God surrounds and protects His people. Psalm 32:10, “Many are the woes of the wicket, but the Lord’s unfailing love surrounds the one who trust him.” Those who trust the Lord find true security.
What does trusting the Lord look like for me? I see Him as the source of my security. When I look to Him and see His grace and love as well as His protection when the pressure is on, I know the mountains of the Lord surround me. I can ignore the evil that is ever present and focus on my God who is my fortress and refuge. I will cry out to God because the creator of the universe will move mountains. God secures and protects me daily because I trust Him.
