Jeremiah 17:7, Isaiah 2:22, 51:12a, Psalm 118:8 NIV 2011
“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.
Stop trusting in mere humans, who have but a breath in their nostrils.
“I, even I, am he who comforts you.”
It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in humans.
Both prophets and psalmists agree God is beyond comprehension. Jeremiah and Isaiah were God’s prophets called to speak to the people of Judah prior to Babylonia captivity. Jeremiah continued to warn Judah during the reigns of the last five kings. He called the people to confidently trust in the Lord. Isaiah warned of judgment that was followed by God’s comfort to those who trust in Him. The psalter used prayers and hymns to worship God. Refuge found in the One True God aided God’s people to remain faithful to Him. God is our trusted ceaseless comfort and righteous refuge.
When the world that I knew began to crumble around me in May of 1984, the one and only One I could trust was the Lord. No one could fix what was happening nor could I. Finding comfort in Him, I knew no human could rescue me, nor would I find rest anywhere. Yes, there were many that walked beside me. He carried me when I was weak and shattered into small pieces. God is my trusted comforter and righteous refuge daily.
When do you take refuge in Him?
