Genesis 37:26-27 NIV 2011
Judah said to his brothers, “What will we gain if we kill our brother and cover up his blood? Come, let’s sell him to the Ishmaelites and not lay our hands on him; after all, he is our brother, our own flesh and blood. His brothers agreed.
The story of Joseph is God’s story of redemption for the Israelites. As his father’s favorite, his brothers were jealous. God provided a way of escape for Joseph from death at the hands of his brothers. Rather than kill him, they sold him. Jacob eventually was sold in Egypt to Potiphar, an official of Pharaoh. Romans 8:28a, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him.” The brother’s plan was foiled so God’s plans would succeed. God’s sovereignty shines through His people successfully serving Him.
Serving the least, the lost and the lonely is what Jesus called me to do. Joseph served Potiphar and Pharaoh while he remained close to God. Joseph’s brothers thought of self before service. Nothing has changed in the world today. Though once upon a time I thought God called me to Africa. Later I understood God called me to serve Him elsewhere. I am serving Him here daily by sharing His truth with those who may need what is written on any given day. My prayer is that God’s sovereignty shines when I share God’s Truth each day.
Who needs to know Jesus today?
