Deuteronomy 7:1-2 NIV 2011

When the Lord your God brings you into the land you are entering to possess and drives out before you many nations—the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and the Jebusites, seven nations larger and stronger than you—and when the Lord your God has delivered them over to you and you have defeated them, then you must destroy them totally. Make no treaty with them, and show them no mercy.

God wanted the Israelites to drive out the people from the lands they were to inherit and Moses was His voice. Deuteronomy 4:38, “to drive out before you nations greater and stronger than you…” Deuteronomy 20:17, “Completely destroy them—the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and the Jebusites.” They were told to conquer their enemies and show no mercy. Joshua 11:11, “Everyone in it they put to the sword.” Compromise brought destruction. Malachi 2:11, “Judah has been unfaithful.” God saves faithful sinners from self-destruction.

Since the Garden of Eden and beyond, we all struggle with sin. God’s Word consistently reveals the effects of our sinful choices. God gave Moses directions to keep the Israelites focused on His ways rather than the ways of the world. I have a daily choice to focus on Him or what’s happening around me. I use 2 Corinthians 10:5 and Ten-five it. “Take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” Saved from self-destruction through Jesus.

How does God help us destroy the enemy?

Satisfied saved sinners,

S

  1. Thanks for faithfully encouraging your readers daily with the Word. I truly needed that verse today. Love you sister.

    1. Thank you for your comment. As my finger hovered over the daily yesterday, I kept thinking it was just OK. Again God uses His people to encourage me with comments like yours. I sometimes forget He is in control and guiding my writing. And He is always faithful, the reason I wrote today’s daily.
