Proverbs 9:10-11 NIV 2011
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. For through wisdom your days will be many, and years will be added to your life.
The fear of the Lord is the theme of the book of Proverbs. Proverbs 1:7, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Fearing the Lord included submission to Him as Lord as well as His Word. Psalm 110:10, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom…” Knowledge comes from God. Proverbs 30:3, “I have not learned wisdom, nor have I attained to the knowledge of the Holy One.” God commanded His people to keep His Word with them. Proverbs 3:1, “My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart.” Making godly choices comes through daily conversations with God.
How often have you felt you are at a crossroads in life? I have finally figured out those are the times I need to make a choice. Sometimes I’ve made the wrong choice and started a disastrous detour. So I cling to this verse. Philippians 4:8, “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” Remaining in touch with the Lord daily, I make godly choices.
