1 John 3:23-24 NIV 2011

And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. The one who keeps God’s commands lives in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.

John’s first letter to believers in Asia Minor reiterates what is found in his Gospel. To be a follower of Jesus Christ, you must believe in Christ. John 6:29, “Jesus answered, ‘The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.’” And his second comment is to love one another. John 13:34, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” John consistently encouraged believers to live by faith. Belief in Jesus Christ comes with commands accomplished while walking in the Spirit.

Believing Jesus is the Son of God comes by faith. Loving others as Jesus loves me, that’s the hard part. Loving those who have hearts not surrendered to Christ that do evil things, they are hard to love. Anyone that persecutes Christians in other countries, I have a hard time loving them. Coming along side someone that continues to make poor life choices, hard to love. As a believer in Christ walking in the Spirit, I’ll pray for them.

How will we love the unlovable?

Daily walking in the Spirit,
