Psalm 147:11, 149:4-5 NIV 2011
The Lord delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love.
For the Lord takes delight in his people; he crowns the humble with victory. Let his faithful people rejoice in this honor and sing for joy on their beds.
Both Psalm 147 and 149 begin and end with “Praise the Lord.” The Lord is revealed historically throughout the Psalms as the refuge and hope. Psalm 103:11, “For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him.” God’s unfailing love is constant. Victory in the Lord comes through humbly approaching Him by remembering everything the Lord has done in the past. Psalm 6:4, “Turn, Lord, and deliver me, save me because of your unfailing love.” The Lord delights in His faithful followers who put their hope in Him.
God’s Word shows us what delights the Lord. The question is what delights me? I was delighted to marry the man I love more than forty-eight years ago. The birth of each of our girls brought unconditional love and delight. The birth of each grandchild delighted this grandparent. Serving the Lord in the many ways I’ve been asked to serve Him is more delightful than I could have ever imagined. Lifting my voice in praise to the Lord brings immeasurable delight on Sunday mornings. I smile knowing I may delight Him daily.
How will we delight the Lord today?
