Isaiah 41:13, 58:11a NIV 2011
For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, “Do not fear; I will help you.”
The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun scorched land and will strengthen your frame.
Isaiah was God’s prophet called to give both the bad news and the good to God’s people in Judah. The book of judgements begins in chapter 1. Isaiah 1:4, “Woe to the sinful nations, a people whose guilt is great, a brood of evildoers, children given to corruption!” The book of comfort begins in chapter 40. Isaiah 40:1, “Comfort, comfort my people, says your God.” Isaiah, like others, reminded God’s people He steadfastly remained with them. Psalm 73:23, “Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand.” God is dependable and true.
After my first in-depth study of the book of Isaiah in BSF 2010/11 I’ve grown to appreciate his writing and style. He was courageous and saw the Pre-incarnate Christ. I needed a fresh look at God. He is the Holy, Sovereign Lord. When I see God for who he truly is, the ugliness of my sin becomes so vivid that there is no personal sacrifice too great to offer. My whining became less and my willingness to serve became more. It’s a daily step by step process knowing God is dependable and true.
Where’s God calling us to serve?
Willing to sacrifice,
