1 Thessalonians 1:4-5a NIV 2011
For we know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that he has chosen you, because our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction.
Paul, ever the encourager, wrote to the church at Thessalonica they grow in their faith. (Note: The Greek word for brothers and sisters, adelphoi, refers to both men and women as part of God’s family.) Christ died to save sinners. All believers are united with Christ. God chose them. Ephesians 1:4, “For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight.” The Good News is Truth. The Father’s Words point to Jesus. The Son was sent to save sinners through His final blood sacrifice. The Holy Spirit releases power in believers to walk with conviction. God’s chosen walk with deep conviction through the power of the Holy Spirit.
The power of the Holy Spirit is found in Romans 1:16 and 15:13 as well as the book of Acts. The Holy Spirit gives us power to witness. Acts 1:8, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” As Christmas draws near, let’s share God’s Truth. The Spirit’s power leads us to share Jesus daily.
What is God asking us to share with family?
