Proverbs 2:1-2, 6 NIV 2011
My son, if you accept my words; and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding.
For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
From Genesis to Revelation, God gave His Word to His people to understand His Truth. 2 Timothy 3:16, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.” Each author of Proverbs challenged the reader to study and know God’s Word. Proverbs 23:12, “Apply your heart to instruction and your ears to words of knowledge.” James wrote to the Jerusalem believers to ask God for wisdom. James 1:5, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be give to you.” God’s Word is the source of knowledge and wisdom.
Salvation is the first step we take on our journey to knowing God. When that occurs at a young age studying the Bible isn’t always a priority. I did memorize Scripture and knew the books of the Bible, but what’s found between those pages was always a mystery. In an adult Sunday school class I met the kings of the Old Testament. I studied the book of Matthew in BSF and continue to study God’s Word today. Studying God’s Word daily He is the source of my knowledge and wisdom.
