Numbers 6:23b-27 NIV 2011
“Say to them:
‘The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.’”
“So they will put my name on the Israelites, and I will bless them.”
The Lord is speaking to Moses. He shares with him words he was to give to Aaron. Commentators concur on the name of this blessing: The Aaronic benediction. God is their protector at all times. Psalm 17:8, “Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings.” God’s acceptance and favor radiates through His grace. Psalm 31:16, “Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your unfailing love.” Shalom, God’s complete peace, rightness and well-being. John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.” The depths of God’s love and care are beyond comprehension.
God consistently took care of the Israelites throughout the Old Testament. And that same God daily takes care of me. Even in the deepest times of despair, He is there every step of the way. Laying my father to rest was bittersweet. Having suffered a debilitating stroke ten years before, he was ready for his home going. Making all the arrangements and planning the service, I was never alone. The Lord’s deep love and care for me then was beyond all measure.
How do we comprehend God’s care?
Beloved by Him,
