Jeremiah 9:23-24 NIV 2011
“Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the Lord who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight.”
God called Jeremiah to announce the destruction of Judah during the reigns of the final five kings; Josiah through Zedekiah. The unhappy task brought him to the temple, Jeremiah 7:1b, “Stand at the gate of the Lord’s house and there proclaim this message.” Jeremiah 10:1, “Hear what the Lord says to you, people of Israel.” God reminds them their boasting of wisdom, strength and riches all come from Him. God is the giver of every good and perfect gift. 2 Corinthians 10:17, “But, ‘Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.’” God delights in those who know Him.
Studying God’s Word keeps me looking toward Him and less toward myself. Seeing His beautiful creation as I walk each morning sharpens the image of my day. He is the same God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob who continually called each to Him. Armed with the truth of His Word, we have been given all the tools we need to grow closer to Him through His Word. God is delighted when I share His amazing kindness, justice and righteousness.
Why should we delight the Lord?
Ready to daily delight,
