Deuteronomy 6:4, Mark 12:29 NIV 2011
“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.”
“The most important one, “ answered Jesus, “is this, ‘Hear O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.’”
Moses knew the Lord. God gave Moses the laws to teach Israel what to do when they arrived in the Promised Land. He began by opening with use your ears, listen up. By listening they would then remember who God is and He is all they needed. David knew who God is. Psalm 86:10, “For you are great and do marvelous deeds; you alone are God.” Jesus told the disciples to listen up. He then shared the greatest commandment: to love the Lord God with all their soul, mind and strength. Paul heard the Lord in Acts 23:11, “Take Courage!” God speaks to those who listen.
How many times did I say to my girls, “Please just listen to me.” Sometimes they did and sometimes they did not. I smile now remembering those words and how many times I’ve not listened to the Lord. Like the Israelites, when I’ve not listened to the Lord, it doesn’t end well for me. The more I read and study God’s Word, the more I hear His voice. And the more I let the quiet surround me, the more I hear Him. Daily prayer is the best way to hear Him. He speaks to me when I listen.
How do we hear His voice?
