1 Peter 1:3-4a NIV 2011

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish or fade.

The relationship between God the Father and Jesus Christ is unique. Paul chose the same offering of praise, 2 Corinthians 1:3, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ…” Believers are born again at salvation. 1 Peter 1:23, “For you have been born again…” Living hope is found in nothing less than Jesus Christ and His righteousness. 1 Timothy 1:1, “…Christ Jesus our hope.” Believers have a reasonable expectation that their eternal inheritance is secure. Romans 8:17, “Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ…” Believers inherit living hope through Christ alone.

Leaving my class reunion last night, many said they hoped to see me again at the next one. Thinking back ten years, some of those using those same words are no longer with us. Placing my hope in earthly things has never offered me the satisfaction found in the living hope we share in Christ. God’s Word is true and refreshes that hope I have in Christ daily. He is my portion and provider. I’ve inherited a hope through Him alone that will never perish.

How does hope help during hard times?

Savoring imperishable hope,
