Ephesians 4:5,13 NIV 2011
One Lord, one faith, one baptism…
Until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
Paul stressed unity in the body of Christ to the Ephesian churches. Ephesians 4:3, “Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” They were to be unified in whom they believed and what that meant: faith is based on the finished work of Jesus Christ and He is Lord of their lives, baptism is by water. Philippians 3:8, “What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Jesus Christ, my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ.” Unity is found through faith in Christ.
The example Paul set for the early church was precisely the one Christ called him to set. I need to share the Truth in love when I speak of Jesus Christ. Along with my words, my actions speak louder than anything I could ever say. A sister-in-Christ shared, “I want less of me and more of Christ.” I’ve filed that statement and ponder it daily. Building bridges to shepherd others is how the Lord has called me to serve Him. Unity with believers is found through my faith in Christ.
How does faith in Christ lead us to unity?
