1 Kings 17:5-6 NIV 2011
So he did what the Lord had told him. He went to the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan, and stayed there. The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the brook.
The Lord spoke to Elijah in verse 1 marking the first of His prophets in Israel. The people of Israel continued to worship other gods rather than the Lord God. To prepare Elijah for the drought, God directed him to leave and be cared for by the ravens He would send. Eating meat twice a day was a luxury only offered at a king’s table. God’s sustaining food led to Elijah’s ministry to the people of Israel. Beginning at the table provided by the King of Kings, Yahweh continually provided for Elijah. Those who walk with the Lord will be fed.
God’s Word is true and reliable. Feasting on His Word daily offers me spiritual food that feeds my soul. While Elijah was given physical food and water, I’ve been given a thirst for the truth that is gloriously quenched by His Word. After writing 2352 devotions and using only a few Scriptures twice, I’ve still not plumbed the depths of God’s Word. Passages I’ve loved over the years still bring new insight of God’s direction for my life. Since I chose to walk with Him He faithfully feeds me.
How is God feeding us today?
Feasting on His Word together,
