John 7:41-42 NIV 2011

Others said, “He is the Messiah.”

Still others asked, “How can the Messiah come from Galilee? Does not Scripture say that the Messiah will come from David’s descendants and from Bethlehem, the town where David lived?”

Chapter 7 contains John’s description of Jesus at the Festival of the Tabernacles. The people at the festival had mixed feelings about Jesus. Some said, “He is the Messiah.” And others with more knowledge asked if the Messiah would come from Galilee. They knew Scripture stated the Messiah would be a descendant of David from Bethlehem. They were unaware of Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem. Matthew 1:1, 16 “This is the genealogy of Jesus: The Messiah, the son of David…and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary…” There was division among the people over who Jesus was. Jesus Christ is the promised Messiah who came to save sinners.

Jesus doesn’t care that I was born in Tacoma, Washington or who my parents were. He only cares that I made the decision to follow Him so many years ago. Were there times when I took a detour from my present walk? Yes, there were regret-filled years. The road after salvation can be a bumpy one. For some there may be hurdles to get over along the way. I’m thankful for all those who continually pointed me back to Christ along my not so straight saved sinner journey.

How did you meet The Messiah, Jesus Christ?

Daily focused on Jesus,
