1 Chronicles 29:10-11 NIV
David praised the Lord in the presence of the whole assembly saying,
“Praise be to you, Lord, the God of our father Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, Lord, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all.”
King David gracious gave his personal fortune to the construction of God’s Holy Temple. He appealed to his people just as Moses did to the Israelites to give what they could to build the tabernacle. After the outpouring of donations from God’s people in Israel, David offered a prayer of thanksgiving for their generosity. God is powerful. Psalm 24:8, “Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty…” All they had belonged to the Lord, Psalm 89:11, “The heavens are yours…” God is the owner of all things.
Amassing a sizeable estate is the goal of some. Working long hours to purchase “things” becomes a vicious cycle. We pat ourselves on the back and say, “I did this all on my own.” King David’s giving illustrates one with riches beyond all measure who did not succumb to the lofty thinking of his day. He reminded himself as well as God’s people that everything He had belonged to God. Daily turning to the Lord in prayer I remember God owns everything.
How can we pray like David?
Offering Him everything,
