Hebrews 6:18-19a NIV 2011
God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.
God’s promise from verse 13 is absolutely trustworthy. He made it with Abraham and swore by Himself. Genesis 22:16, “and said, ‘I swear by myself, declares the Lord.’” The two unchangeable things are His promise and oath confirming that promise. God does not lie, Titus 1:2, “in the hope of eternal life, which God who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time.” Hebrews 3:6b, “if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory…” Christ Jesus is the anchor of hope, securing believers safely through life’s rough seas. God gives encouragement to His faithful followers.
Kneeling beside the bed of a dear friend as she was walking into eternity, I could feel the presence of the Master as I prayed for His peace to surround and comfort her. He encouraged me with His soothing words from Scripture. The night after we laid my father to rest, I held my mother in my arms as she kept asking where Dean was. God was present giving me encouragement as my heart broke for my mother. He is my anchor, encouraging me daily.
What ways does He encourage His faithful?
