Psalm 32:5,11 NIV 2011
Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.” And you forgave me the guilt of my sin.
Rejoice in the Lord and be glad, you righteous; sing, all you who are upright in heart!
This psalm addressed how David sought forgiveness for his sin. He did not want to be like a horse or mule without understanding. He first acknowledged there was sin present in his life and brought it out into the open. The next step was to confess his sin before God. God forgave him. The Psalm ended when David rejoiced in what God did for Him. Rejoicing with an “upright heart” David was once again able to proclaim God’s great mercy in his song. To receive God’s forgiveness we must confess our sins.
Sitting in the quiet of the guest room this afternoon there was much time to reflect on what sins lie deep within me. Those sins were ones needing confession and then receive God’s forgiveness. God’s Word says, 1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” These words were learned on drives to Awana with our youngest daughter. A sin from long ago did come to mind. I confessed it to Him and I know His Word says I’ve received His forgiveness.
How will we forgive others today?
We’re forgiven daily,
