Joshua 24:15 NIV 2011
“But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”
God chose Joshua to lead His people into the Promised Land. Joshua made choices everyday of his life. As God’s leader, he challenged the Israelites to make a decision and choose; worship the hand made idols or worship the One True God. Ruth 1:15, “‘Look,’ said Naomi, ‘your sister-in-law is going back to her people and her gods.’” Ruth, a Moabite, chose to follow Naomi’s God. Joshua chose to follow God as did Jacob, Genesis 35:2b, “Get rid of the foreign gods you have with you, and purify yourselves and change your clothes.” Choosing to serve the Lord brings life.
We make choices every day. I decide to get out of bed and that’s my first choice. From there the skies the limit. I’ve never been in charge of a whole nation of people, but my family has been just the right amount of ones to shepherd. As it has grown through marriage, I’m really not in charge but remain connected with them all. I made the life changing choice to follow Jesus. I choose to serve the Lord, which daily brings me life.
How are we serving the Lord today?
