Ezekiel 11:19-20 NIV 2011
I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove them from their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh. Then they will follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. They will be my people, and I will be their God.
Ezekiel offered words of encouragement to the Jews captive in Babylonia. He reminded them of King David’s words. Psalm 86:11, “Teach me your way, Lord, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.” God alone could transform their whole personal commitment. They needed hearts dedicated to the Lord by daily following His Word. Psalm 1:2, “but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.” God’s steadfast followers receive an undivided heart and new spirit.
2 Corinthians 6:16c, “As God has said: ‘I will live with them and walk among them and I will be their God, and they will be my people.’” Similar quotes are found in Jeremiah 7:23, Hosea 1:9 and Zechariah 8:8. God does not change from the Old to the New Testament. My attitude and heart change periodically. I left to attend a new church this morning with a divided heart and rebellious spirit. Steadfastly focused on His Word, He provided a new spirit and undivided heart.
What keeps us from receiving God’s best?
Undivided and spirit filled,
