Genesis 2:6-7 NIV 2011
But streams came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground. Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.
Genesis 1:1-2:3 is an account of creation. Genesis 2:4-4:26 records the beginning of human history. Rain and water yielded plant life able to sustain human life. Isaiah 44:3, “For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants.” Man was created in the image of God and given life. Genesis 1:27, “So God created mankind in his own image…” God breathed life into the nostrils of Adam. Job 27:3, “as long as I have life within me, the breath of God in my nostrils.” God is the breath of life.
Watching the first breath of a new baby can take your breath away. Sitting with a friend or loved one as they take their last breath can be a similar experience. I didn’t breathe fully until I accepted Christ as my personal Savior and Lord. My life was forever changed knowing salvation gave me eternal life. The Lord’s breath of life propels me to reach out to those around me. Following Jesus I know God is the breath of life.
