Ezekiel 18:17b-18 NIV 2011
He keeps my laws and follows my decrees.
He will not die for his father’s sin; but he will surely live. But his father will die for his own sin, because he practiced extortion, robed his brother and did what was wrong among his people.”
Ezekiel, whose name means “God is strong,” was from a priestly family. Ezekiel 3:14, “The Spirit then lifted me up and took me away, and I went in bitterness and in the anger of my spirit, with the strong hand of the Lord on me.” Ezekiel was called by God to walk with His people as their priest in exile. Ezekiel 1:3, “the word of the Lord came to Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi.” The destruction of Jerusalem and the temple was God’s judgment for the sins of His people. Ezekiel continually revealed God’s sovereignty and grace. Israel would be restored. God is our Call from sin.
Because of all her sins, Jerusalem would fail. Because I’m a sinner, without daily forgiveness I fail, I’m exactly like the Jews. Ezekiel promised God would return and restore them. I was given a promise at salvation that He would restore me. I have loved reading this awesome book in God’s Word. I understand God used Ezekiel for his glory to prune and lead the Jews back into fellowship with the Lord. God is my call from sin.
How is God at work in our sinful lives?
