Romans 6:1, 22 NIV 2011
What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase?
But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.
Paul wanted the Romans to know they were made holy, sanctified, through faith in Christ. It was a process of dying to self and living for Christ. Romans 6:12, “Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires.” Daily leaning into the Lord their lives revealed they were Christians and their path was true. Ephesians 6:6, “Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart.” Faith in Christ sanctifies believers.
When I recognized I was a sinner, I knew I needed a Savior. Sin led to salvation. After salvation, the Lord began the work of making me holy and sanctified. That’s always been the hard part for me; dying to self. Even at my age I still like to be in control but not as much as I did yesterday. I say, “He’s not done with me yet.” I do believe for most of us He won’t be finished until we meet Him face to face. I believe Christ saved and sanctified me.
What work is Christ doing in us today?
Sinners saved and sanctified,
