2 Corinthian 4:4-5 NIV 2011
The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake.
Satan is “the god of this age.” He is the reason unbelief as well as ungodliness proliferated in Paul’s day. Those not following Christ did by default choose Satan as their god. The hope that shines within the heart of believers is unavailable to those drawn to “the god of this age.” Those who follow Satan live lives chasing after worldly possessions and are full of self-interest. Humble followers of Christ shine His light, bringing salvation and eternal life to unbelievers. The Gospel of Jesus Christ reveals His glory for all who choose to follow Him.
The twenty-first century is no different than the first. Two thousand plus years later we are weighed down with self-focus. Gazing upward to the Creator God is necessary. I’ll admit there are times in my walk when I’ve lost site of eternity, wanting to satisfy my own desires. Remaining grounded in God’s Word makes my focus become steadfast to His call. Then I slip off my perch after finishing my time on His throne. Choosing to follow Jesus Christ His glory can be revealed daily.
How did we see His glory today?
His steadfast servants,
