2 Chronicles 1:9-10 NIV 2011

Now, Lord God, let your promise to my father David be confirmed, for you have made me king over a people who are as numerous as the dust of the earth. Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of yours?

God promised David his house would last forever. 2 Samuel 7:16, “Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me; your throne will be established forever.” Solomon, Israel’s young king was invited by God to ask for whatever his heart desired. 2 Chronicles 1:7, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you.” He answered in a godly way. He did not seek riches or fame but rather to be worthy of God’s calling. Godly wisdom would guide the knowledge he had. God calls and equips those who seek His wisdom.

I’m sometimes a slow learner, lacking in wisdom. During a mission trip with my church early spring circa 1993 we did a James Bible study. It was a complete game changer for me. James 1:5, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” I’d been relying on my own knowledge rather than seeking God’s wisdom like Solomon. God equips His leaders. He called and daily equips me with godly wisdom I seek.

When have you asked God for wisdom?

His equipped faithful,
