1 Kings 3:9-10 NIV 2011
“So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?”
The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this.
David’s son Solomon was God’s choice as Israel’s successive king. 1 Kings 2:2-3a, “So be strong, act like a man and observe what the Lord your God requires…” Feeling inadequate and young, Solomon went to the Lord in prayer. 1 Kings 3:7b, “But I am only a little child and do not know how to carry out my duties.” He asked God for discernment to listen patiently and come to wise decisions. James 1:5, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault…” God generously gives wisdom to those who humbly seek Him.
I remember after I got married my father saying he’d passed the torch to me. I was a bit unsure as to what exactly he meant. Over the years it’s become clear to me that his position as head of the family was passed to me. It wasn’t until many years later that I understood his words. After he and my mother were gone as well as two siblings God gave me His charge to gather my remaining siblings whenever I’m in town. Humbly seeking Him, God daily gives wise directions.
How does God guide us after humbly seeking Him?
