Luke 12:33-34 NIV 2011

Sell your possessions and give them to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Luke, the Gentile physician, was Paul’s missionary colleague as well. One of the twelve disciples called by Jesus, his message was clear, Jesus, the Messiah, laid down His life to save sinners. He recorded Jesus’ words of warning and encouragement. He reminded the people not to worry. Luke 12:29, “And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it.” His request to sell their possessions was not physical but rather a check on what they valued. Acts 2:45, “They sold property and possessions to give anyone who had need.” The Lord provides abundantly for those who treasure Him alone.

Reading these words Luke quoted remind me of Paul’s words in 2 Corinthians 9:6. “Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.” I can never out give God. Billy Graham wrote, “We are to be stewards of our money. When it is invested and shared for the glory of God, it can be a boon and a blessing.” I’m the recipient of God’s grace. The Lord daily provides abundantly for all who treasure Him.

How do we treasure the Lord?

God provides abundantly,

S
