Isaiah 66:1-2a NIV2011
This is what the Lord says: “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Where is the house you will build for me? Where will my resting place be? Has not my hand made all these things, and so they came into being?” declares the Lord.”
Both Old and New Testament Scripture describe God on a throne. Psalm 9:7, “The Lord reigns forever; he has established his throne for judgment.” God resides in heaven while His people remain on earth underneath Him. God has never been contained anywhere. 1 Kings 8:27, “But will God really dwell on earth? The heavens, even the highest heaven, cannot contain you.” Genesis 1:1, “God created the heavens and the earth.” Psalm 102:25, “In the beginning you laid the foundations of earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands.” Acts 7:50, “Has not my hand made all these things?” God is self-sufficient.
The lyrics from a song written by Paul Simon in 1965 “I am a rock, I am an island” might sum up how many during that time thought. Most people didn’t think they needed anyone or anything. Nothing has changed. Many still have that same thought process today. God created Adam and Eve and through their choices sin entered the world. God provided a solution. We are all in need of the Savior. Our self-sufficient God desires a daily relationship with His people.
What’s our relationship with God?
