1 Peter 1:14-16 NIV 2011
As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy because I am holy.”
Peter understood the road map used to live for Christ involved sacrifice. Perspective, purpose, priorities and pride can get skewed in the everyday world. By being grounded in God’s Truth they would be guided by the Holy Spirit. Ephesians 1:4, “For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight.” God’s people were called to be different. In Matthew 16:21-33 Jesus answered Peter’s question about forgiveness with the parable of the Unmerciful Servant. Though Peter’s perspective was skewed, he ultimately understood Jesus’ Words. God calls His people to be holy.
As a young person it was hard to understand how Jesus could use a hot head like Peter. I laugh as I type that now knowing how God continues to use me even though I’m a lot like Peter. He needed to completely surrender his life to Jesus. That’s a daily occurrence for me. He challenges me with the smallest choices I make. Pausing I’m able to see where my perspective was skewed. Thankfully God sees me through the prism of Jesus Christ. I’m called to be different: holy.
