Leviticus 18:5, 30 NIV 2011
“Keep my decrees and laws, for the person who obeys them will live by them.
“Keep my requirements and do not follow any of the detestable customs that were practiced before you came and do not defile yourselves with them. I am the Lord your God.”
God gave Adam and Eve specific directions in Eden. Eve chose not to follow them. Abraham obeyed God and all nations were blessed. Genesis 26:5, “because Abraham obeyed me and did everything I required of him.” God and Jesus gave commandments to the people. Deuteronomy 6:6, “These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts.” Matthew 22:37, “Jesus replied, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and will all your soul and with all your mind.’” The believer’s road map is God’s Word.
I’ve been a map person for the better part of my life. I study maps when I’m traveling to places I don’t know. Why I knew how to get to Greve in Chianti FL, Italy. We approached after dark and passed the entrance to the town square twice when I finally said, “We need to turn here because I remember the name of this road.” That’s what I do with God’s Word because it’s been engraved on my heart. His truth guides me when I’m stuck. God’s Word is the road map I use when navigating my daily life.
How does God’s Word guide us toward service?
