1 John 3:4-6 NIV 2011
Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin. No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.
The apostle John wrote his first of three letters to the churches in western Asia Minor. Some taught Jesus was not fully human and fully divine. John wrote to refute that doctrine. 1 John 2:4, “Whoever says, ‘I know him,’ but does not do what he commands is a liar.” These three verses gave them the truth; sinless Jesus took the sins of the world to the cross. 3 John 1:11, “Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good.” God’s grace offered through faith in Jesus Christ grants believers the power to live godly lives.
“Look, I am coming soon!” These are the words of Jesus to John in Revelation 22:7. I recall a friend stating one morning during a theological discussion, “We are two-thousand years closer than John.” I love that both Paul and John wrote of salvation by grace alone through faith in Christ alone. Deciding to follow Christ, I was saved by that amazing gift of grace given by God. It’s imperative we use His power to live godly lives.
How will we daily use His power to live godly lives?
Living powerfully together,
