Psalm 103:10-12 NIV 2011
He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.
For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
Psalm 103 is “a salvation history hymn” according to some commentators. David’s words celebrate compassion mixed with God’s love for His people. God’s people deserve death but receive His great mercies endlessly. Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus.” God’s love is beyond comprehension. Lamentations 3:22, “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.” Jesus Christ’s blood removed the sins of believers at the cross. God’s goodness is revealed in His gift of Jesus Christ.
My first thoughts in the morning when my feet hit the floor are I’m thankful for another day with the Lord. Though I am imperfect, He is perfect. I’m a sinner but He is sinless. Being good is not what saves us. Choosing to follow Him saves us. The gift we have each been given came at a great price. Though my sins are great, He never treats me as I deserve. When I’m far away, He remains close. God’s goodness is His Gift found in Jesus Christ.
Who needs to know God’s goodness?
